Happy new music year with Stereo Total!

Dear Stereo Total-fans & friends,

while you are hopefully enjoying our last album "No Controles" (all in Spanish language), we recorded our new "official" album, which will come out in 2010.
Release-dates are the 26th of March 2010 in Europe (on Disko B) and the 4th of May 2010 in the USA (on Kill Rock Stars).
The album is called "Baby Ouh!" and will look like this:

17 new songs of love, hate and hysteric glamour, in French, German, Spanish, English and Japanese. Recorded with great guest-stars !*!

We will present "Baby Ouh!" to you on a Europe-tour in the next spring.

Dear Stereo Total-friends & fans,

Sorry that we didn't write any new newsletters since such a long time.

What happened since February? Nothing and everything!

We were on tour through the US and Canada for a very long interesting beautiful time.
We were playing on crazy summer-festivals where the people didn't give a damn sh.. about the rain.

In Berlin, we were playing in the legendary Rauch-Haus, where "Ton Steine Scherben" had rehearsals in the last century, but also in the legendary SO36, where all the crazy new- wave- industrial- experimental- punk- rock- concerts took place since the late 70ies. Long live SO36!
But we also played at the exhibition-opening from legendary Pierre et Gilles at the C/O Galerie. The pictures were great, the place was packed!

In Madrid we recorded an album called "No Controles Stereo Total" - "Stereo Total nicht kontrollieren!" This album is all in Spanish language for beginners. It will come out on Elefant Records in September.

We also recorded an album "Special Québec" called "Carte Postale de Montréal". There, Françoise Cactus is singing in Québecqoué! It will come out in September in Montréal. On "Dare to care-records". The cover will look like this or like that - depending how the weather will be:

But also:
We are still writing and recording songs for our new (un)regular "Stereo Total"-album. We don't know the name yet, and we don't know how it will look. It will come out at the end of the year.
Whapdoowhap: Supercool guests are playing and singing with us on the record.
But it's a surprise!

Brezel founded a record label called "Verboten in Deutschland".
He releases 7"s from bands like Robotron and Drei Punkt Bande.

NEW SINGLE: ANTI LOVE SONG (Kill Rock Stars)

Stereo Total is a female/male French/German duo based in Berlin. The band exists since the mid-90ies and have released at least 8 albums: "Oh ah", "Monokini", "Juke-Box Alarm", "My Melody", "Musique Automatique", "Do the Bambi", "Discotheque" and "Paris-Berlin". Françoise Cactus plays drums and sings, Brezel Göring plays organ, Trautonium (a German synthesizer from the 20ies), a self-made guitar and a lot of strange electronic instruments.

They like to play music, and they like to play with music. They mix different styles. She is more inspired by French chanson and Rock' n' Roll, he by the robotic New-Wave sounds from German "Krautrock". The result is a kind of a chaotic melodic crazy underground pop-music.

Françoise Cactus loves to sing in different languages: French, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Turkish and Japanese. For the US-tour planned in March/April 09, KRS brings out a tour-single called "Anti Love Song" with four songs in English language (with French accent).

On the cover, there is a crochet-portrait of Courtney Love (she can be recognized by the crochet syringe and dollar note) made by Cactus. "Courtney Wool" is part of a series of woolen portraits of female musicians exposed actually at Gallery Crystal Ball in Berlin.

"Anti-Love-Song" (a Betty Davis cover-version), "I hate everybody in the discotheque", "No Tututu"... What's going on? So much hate and anger in the music of Stereo Total! At least Brezel Göring comes up with something positive when he sings: "I wanna be a mama, I wanna have a baby, I want to play with him and exploit him well...". (The original version - in Spanish - was composed by movie director Almodóvar.)

On the new "Anti Love Song"-EP, the band is not leaving its musical territory of low bit sampling, Casio-tones, Rockabilly-drumming and disco songs with the length of short punk songs.

Stereo Total have a bunch of friends in the USA and are really happy to come visiting them soon. Anyway, they are globetrotters and permanently on tour since years. With their music, they try to build down frontiers, stylistic, linguistic, geographical??? Their fan-community all over the world shows them that everybody is special, but also that there are analogies between people having the same taste and the same aspirations, no matter where they come from.

Stereo Total is not what you would call a serious band. They are not making music because they are too greedy to pay for a psychologist. They think that humor is a soft weapon, which can change a lot! But this is not a universal recipe: Complete lack of humor can change a lot too...

Good news! Thursday, 12th of February 09, we're going to play at the Hive Club at Zürich at the 3 years anniversary party of Neon Club.
We were in Switzerland one month ago, in the high mountains in Laax. There we played for the Snowboard- World- Championship. Oh boy! These snowboarders know how to party.

"Frescobaldi with laser-guns"
Baroque meets Electro: The Elbipolis Barock Orchester is taking the advantage of teaming up with Brezel Göring for two concerts. Compositions from Tarquino Merula, Alessandro Stradella and Girolamo Frescobaldi are going to be co-interpreted by the Elbipolis Barock Orchestra and the low-fi electronics of Brezel Göring.
This live experiment can be witnessed in the following theatres:

You are invited to Françoise's exhibition opening with a performance at the Crystall Ball Galerie, Schönleinstr. 7, Berlin. The exhibition with star-portraits is called: "Häkeldiven & Starletten".

28th Feb 09: Stereo Total meet Kurt Weill
From Berlin to Broadway and backwards: STEREO TOTAL are going to interpret the compositions of Kurt Weill.
At the Beatclub in Dessau (Germany) as part of the Kurt-Weill-Festival STEREO TOTAL are going to play works from all periods: the early Berlin success of Three Penny Opera, Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny, Happy End but also songs from his later Broadway musicals.
They are going to play Weill in the typical STEREO TOTAL-Sound: minimalist Rock' a' Billy -drums, 8bit electronic, toy pianos and straight-forward French accent... As an additional musician Anton Garber is going to play the double bass.

Put the vodka into the fridge and the caviar on he bread!
We're going back to Russia.
At the 5th of March 09, we'll have a show in Moscow (at the B2). And on the 6th of March a show in St Petersburg (at the A2).

Our new US-single: "Anti Love Song" (Label: KRS) should be finished soon.

...for the art-freaks:
This year, the Wollita-culture-prize (from Françoise Cactus' big woolen puppet "Woolita") went to the film-artist Ming Wong from Singapore for his movie: "Lerne deutsch mit Petra von Kant"

...for our US-friends:
Congratulations for your elections. We are coming on tour next spring (March-April) and are just recording a tour-single called "Anti Love Song", in which all numbers are sung in really bad English, but they are negatively lovely.

...for the fans of Hispanic music:
We just finished to record a complete LP/CD in Spanish language: "No controles Stereo Total".
It is made out of some translated Stereo Total-hits and out of some cover-versions from bizarre Spanish songs (for example: "Voy a ser mama" from movie-director Almodovar).

BERLIN SPECIAL (part 1):
At the 12th of December, there will be an exhibition at Gallery Neurotitan with 7 female performers, mostly known as musicians. (F. Cactus is the one with the glasses.) Check it out!

BERLIN SPECIAL (part 2):
At the 18th of December, we will play with our friend Can and his band Khan of Finland in a new club called "LiveAtDot", Falckensteinstr. 47.

Daisies-Project cancelled

Dear Stereo Total-fans,

we are really sorry, but because the "Daisies"-project with Stereo Total and special guests has been cancelled, we won't be able to make our music- theater- dancing- show to the great Tchech movie "Sedmikràsky" (1966), called "Tausendschönchen" in German.
We should have been playing tonight, 17th of November 2008, in Bruno, at the 19th in Prag and at the 21st in Zilina.

Music Video Prize | Summer-Festivals 2008

Dear Stereo Total-friends,

Sorry that we didn't write new news since months.
We were always traveling like gypsies and playing here and there and there also. What happened in between?

We put out a single in Spanish called "Plastico" (Elefant Records) and had the pleasure to try out the new songs on our Mexican tour.
Our Best-of "Grandes Exitos" just came out on the Mexican-label "Silicon Carne".

Our no-budget music-video "Ich bin der Stricherjunge" (watch it on youtube.com here) directed by Simgil won the short-movie-prize in the Oberhausen-festival. It was a big surprise for us, because it is a super 8, in which gay-hustlers are smoking all the time, and that is now forbidden everywhere (super 8 and smoking). If you wanna smoke, wear a smoking!

Because of our "Plastico"-single, we were invited to play on an open-air Hispanic-party in Brooklyn New York, but the weather went bad and it was raining like in films noirs from the 60ies, and so the event took place in an incredible club called "Love", in which a part of the audience loved us so much that it was standing all the time beside us on stage. So finally we got a feeling of what a big band would be!

Next plans are summer-festivals. See the tour-dates here. At the 9th of August we will have the pleasure to play twice at the gaypride in Reykjavik (Iceland). In the same month we will go back to Australia and play for the first time in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, we are writing new songs for a new Stereo Total-album, music for a Japanese Underground- Porno- movie and preparing with special guests a show about the great Czech movie "The Daisies" ("Tausendschönchen").

Mexico - Plastico EP - Spring 2008

we are very sorry to tell you that one part of our South-American tour has been cancelled. We won't play yet in Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina. But it's only an "Au revoir", the shows are delayed.
We are very happy to announce you that we will play in March in Mexico (Tijuana, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Mexico City).

A special Mexican "Stereo Total"- best-of: "Grandes Èxitos" is soon coming out on "Silicon Carne". With a song in Spanish called "Plástico". ("Let's add some plastic beauty to our ugly lives...")

This song and three other Spanish songs were just released on the "Plástico EP" by Elefant Records from Madrid. We will perform these Spanish songs in Mexico.

"Paris<>Berlin": Our actual CD on the German label "Disko B" and on the US-label "Kill Rock Stars" is romantic and wild. We hope you like it a lot.

For the 20st anniversary of the movie "Nekromantik" from Jörg Buttgereit, we did a special show in Berlin and played music (written by Brezel Göring) to the movie with our friends Anton and Chloe. That was totally gothic!

"Paris<>Berlin" is a rock'n'roll and electro-chanson album, ideal for your summer of love and hate, it is rough and romantic in the same time. We took care of the melodies, and the lyrics are all about love, rebellion and nostalgia.

At Friday, 29th June at 5 p.m., we will play a mini-show and give autographs at the Berlin-vinyl-store "Space Hall", Zossener Str. 35, 10961 Berlin-Kreuzberg. Welcome!

In June/July, we will put out our new CD "Paris<>Berlin",

"Paris<>Berlin" is a rock'n'roll and chanson-album. It is rough and romantic in the same time (like the cover, where Brezel and me are showed as naked lovers). We took care of the melodies. And the lyrics are all about love, rebellion and nostalgy.

Originally we didn't like this idea of a best of-record. It always looks as if you wanted to get retired. And that's not our case! But because it was the idea of our first German label "Bungalow", we said "okay".

Our new album is finished! It is called "Do the Bambi" - here is the Cover (by Cabine with photos from Simgil):

Almost one hour of crazy sounds & with very special guests. There will be a Double-LP!
In Europe and Japan, "Do the Bambi" will be released by Disko B on the 28th of February 05 and in the US by Kill Rock Star on the 25th of January 05.
(The US-version will contain more English versions of the songs, and there will be a special French edition with more songs in French.)
Look forward to the great remixes which will come out on special singles.

Die Ausstellung When Love Turns to Poison nimmt als Ausgangspunkt und Anregung für ihren Titel eine Zeichnung des amerikanischen Künstlers Frank Gaard. Auf dieser Zeichnung sind eine Unterhose, Hände, die mit dem Finger zeigen, überzeichnete Porträts, die Aussprüche "When love turns to poison", "Dream" und auf dem Höschen der Name "Victorine Meurent" zu sehen. Diese Anordnung leitet uns zu dem Feld der Auseinandersetzung in der Ausstellung.

Victorine Louise Meurent (1844-1927) war das Lieblingsmodell von Édouard Manet, dem bedeutenden impressionistischen Maler (1832-1883). Sie posierte für die beiden skandalträchtigen Bilder "Déjeuner sur l'herbe" (1863) und "Olympia" (1863).

Das "Picknick-Bild" war zusammen mit zwei weiteren Gemälden von Édouard Manet für den Salon abgelehnt worden, weil es im Gegensatz zu den Bildern anderer Maler Nacktheit nicht in einem mythologischen oder historischen Kontext darstellte, sondern in einem profanen und alltäglichen. Als ebenso skandalös wurde die "Olympia" betrachtet, als sie 1865 erstmals ausgestellt wurde: Der Titel verweist auf die "Edel-Prostituierten" und Victorine Meurent erscheint hier als triumphierende, kühle Schönheit inmitten von Luxus.

Parallel zu ihrer Tätigkeit als Aktmodell nahm Victorine Meurent selbst Zeichen- und Malunterricht. 1876 stellte sie erstmals im Salon aus und wurde Mitglied der Société des Artistes. Es sind leider keine Bilder von ihr erhalten. Der Kontakt zu Manet, der versprochen hatte, sie an den Verkäufen der Bilder, für die sie Modell gestanden hatte, zu beteiligen brach 1883 ab. Sie starb in Armut und vollkommener Vergessenheit.

Victorine Meurent und vor allem die "Olympia" bilden den Ausgangspunkt zahlreicher theoretischer, literarischer und künstlerischer Auseinandersetzungen. Immer wieder wurden beide Werke als wichtige Referenzpunkte in den Debatten um Kunst, Sexualität und bürgerliche Identität herangezogen. Die Ausstellung When Love Turns to Poison versucht die hier thematisierten Fragen ganz direkt - jenseits der theoretischen und akademischen Diskurse - aufzunehmen.

Es sind Fragen nach dem Verhältnis von Modell und Maler (z.B. Thomas Hauser), Fragen nach den Fantasmen und dem Rollenbild der Frau (z.B. Françoise Cactus), Fragen nach der künstlerischen Darstellung von sexuellen Wünschen und Fantasien (z.B. Stu Mead und Beth Love) und Fragen nach den psychologischen Abgründen verbotener, tabuisierter, angstbeladener, sexueller Praktiken (z.B. Mathias Seidel). Dass diese Fragen auch mit Humor aufgegriffen werden können, zeigen besonders die Arbeiten von Frank Gaard oder die Installation von Skip Hunter & Ella Verparajugs.

Die Psychoanalyse sagt, in der Liebe geht es nicht primär um die geliebte Person, sondern um das Selbst. Liebe und Begehren sind narzisstischer Natur. Sie sind aufs Engste mit unseren eigenen Ich-Idealen, Ängsten und Sehnsüchten verbunden und wirken auf diese zurück. Die in der Ausstellung gezeigten Werke haben die Bedeutung dieser umfassenden Dimension des Begehrens für das eigene künstlerische Arbeiten zum Gegenstand. In allen Arbeiten wird dieses Thema mit den Mitteln der Kunst auf die Kunst selbst zurückgeführt.

Film-Theater-Konzert von und mit Stereo Total

am 27.07.03 im Columbia-Fritz in Berlin

Stereo Total zeigen den Film "Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" von Uli Edel aus dem Jahr 1981. Es ist eine Verfilmung des gleichnamigen autobiographischen Buches von Christiane F., über ihr Leben als 13 jährige 1977 in der Berliner Hochhaussiedlung Gropiusstadt und ihre Besuche in Europas modernster Discothek Sound, wo sie ihren Freund Detlef kennen lernt und immer tiefer in die Drogenszene hineingerät.

Der Film wird im gekürzten Indirectors-Cut gezeigt und mit einem neuen Soundtrack live vertont.

Außerdem wird ein von dem Buch inspiriertes Theaterstück gespielt, bei dem Francoise Cactus Regie führt.

Anschließend wird das Disco-Garage-Rock'A'Billy-Duo Stereo Total ein Konzert geben.

Movie-theatre-concert with Stereo Total and guests

27.07.03 at Colubia Fritz Berlin

Stereo Total will show the movie "Christiane F.- Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" from 1981. It is the autobiographic story of Christane F., raised in the depressing Berlin suburb Gropiusstadt, her visits in Europes most modern discotheque - the Sound - as a thirteen year old - and how she became a heroin addict.

The movie will be shown in a special shortened Indirectors Cut and a new soundtrack will be played live simultaniously.

There will be also a theater-play by Francoise Cactus, that is inspired by the movie.

Finally the Disco-Garage-Rock'A'Billy -Duo Stereo Total will play a concert.

Am 03.07.03 zwischen 23.00 und 00.00 Uhr beginnt die Ausstrahlung des Stereo Total-Tourtagebuches bei Fast Forward/ Viva in 10 Teilen (Fortsetzung jeweils Donnerstag): Schockierende Einblicke in hysterische Nonsense-Erlebnisse zwischen High- und Low-Society, U- und E-Ethnologie, zwischen Beat und Baedecker: ein Konzertfilm der in bester Tradition von "Der Wazlerkrieg" und "The Rutles".

Außerdem wird ein mexikanisches Video zu "Musique Automatique" von El Inshecto gezeigt: wahnsinnige Teenager, UFOs, Kofferradios...

Stereo Total-North-And-South-America-Tour-Diary

On the third of July between 23.00 and midnight in Fast Forward/ Viva the transmission of the Stereo Total-tour diary will start. It was filmed in May 2003 on a tour through Mexico, USA and Brazil and will be shown in ten chapters, on every following thursday: Shocking hysteric adventures between high- and low-society.

There will be also a mexican Video for the song "Musique Automatique" by El Inshecto: crazy teenagers, UFOs, radios...

Charlotte Roche is having a baby and Stereo Total replaced her in her "Fast Forward"-Show at German "Viva"-TV.
At Wednesday, 15.1. at 10 pm, they will show you their favorite underground-video-clips.

Françoise and Brezel separated from each other. She went back to France, he stood in Germany.
But it was only for two weeks.

At the "Maria" in Berlin. An evening organized by Audio Chocolate. There were Candy Hank, Like A Tim, Brezel Göring and Felix Kubin. Felix played a fantastic version from "Wat tu du med een pumpun?".
Brezel Göring (who presented his solo album "Bad News from the Stars", Gagarin Records) was surprising everybody with an incredible drum-solo. He came up on stage with two big bass-drums and played a crazy rhythm to the movie "Slogan" from Serge Gainsbourg.

December 2002

Stereo Total enjoyed seeing their old Berlin friends after a long tour through Canada and the USA. It was a succesfull tour and they had lots of fun! Thanks to all the fans who came to see them, Stereo Total hope to see you again soon.
